Douglas Lester, Q.C.

Doug is a Senior Partner at RDM Lawyers. His practice is in civil litigation, with a focus on personal injury law with an emphasis on brain injury and catastrophic physical injuries. He also has extensive experience in all areas of labour and employment law that includes labour relations board and employment standards issues; human rights and wrongful dismissal claims; and drafting employment contracts, policy manuals and collective agreements.
Doug has appeared in all levels of court in BC, including the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. He’s also appeared at arbitrations before several administrative tribunals and represented numerous clients at mediation. He’s a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, the Fraser Valley Bar Association and the Abbotsford and District Bar Association. Since 2009, Doug has served as RDM Lawyers’ managing partner. In 2016, he received the designation of Queen’s Counsel, a recognition reserved for only 7 percent of all practicing lawyers in BC. Doug is also a designated Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) of British Columbia & Yukon, having been conferred this designation in 2016.
Born and raised in the Fraser Valley, Doug attended school in Alberta and Ontario. After completing his undergraduate degree from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1980, he spent two years in the insurance industry before returning to school to pursue his legal career. He obtained his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1985 and joined RDM Lawyers upon his call to the Bar of British Columbia in 1986.
An active member of the community, Doug has coached minor hockey, minor fastball and ringette and has served on the Board of Directors of the Reach Gallery, the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation and the Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association.
