Douglas Lester, K.C. is a qualified mediator who has worked as a trial lawyer for more than 36 years, representing the interests of plaintiffs and defendants, insurance companies and institutional clients. Drawing on that experience, he now offers his expertise in the field of mediation.

Mediation services include a wide variety of litigated and pre-litigation disputes including, but not limited to, personal injury, products liability, commercial and corporate, business succession, governance, construction, estates and inheritance, labour and employment, human rights, harassment and bullying, professional negligence and misconduct and libel and slander.

Doug has appeared in all levels of court in BC, including the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal. He’s also appeared at arbitrations before several administrative tribunals and represented hundreds of clients at mediations. He is or has been a member of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia, the Fraser Valley Bar Association and the Abbotsford and District Bar Association.

Born and raised in the Fraser Valley, Doug attended school in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. After completing his undergraduate degree from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in 1980, he spent two years in the insurance industry before returning to school to pursue his legal career. He obtained his law degree from the University of British Columbia in 1985 and joined RDM Lawyers upon his call to the Bar of British Columbia in 1986.

In his spare time, Doug enjoys cooking and collecting and consuming fine wine, golfing, hunting, fishing, hiking and foraging for wild mushrooms.

Fees:

Doug’s hourly rate is currently $600, while much of his personal injury practice is billed through contingency fee agreements.
