If your family is growing through adoption, RDM has a lawyer for that.

Our team of legal professionals can assist with international and domestic adoptions, whether you are an extended family member or new to the child’s life. We can also help whether the “child” is a few days old or a few decades and you’re wanting to legally recognize a long-established parental bond.

We are pleased to offer these services to families who reside anywhere in British Columbia. Applicants for adoption must have resided in BC for at least 6 months, unless the applicant has moved to BC to co-habit with an adult person who has resided in BC for at least 6 months and is seeking to adopt that person’s child.

We are also happy to provide advice to birth parents who are considering options for the best care of their child(ren) and the impact adoption has on legal rights.

Fees

At RDM we strive to be transparent in our billing. Typically, the legal fees for an uncontested adoption are around $3,500 to $4,500 but this depends on a number of factors, including whether or how easily consents can be obtained from the birth parent(s), the age(s) of the child(ren) and whether the court requires a report on the child(ren)’s views or their consent, and whether the adoption is international or domestic. If the adoption is contested, then a trial may be necessary and the fees are likely to be higher and will depend on the hourly rate(s) of the lawyer(s) involved which range from $250-$475.
