Articling Student | 2025-2026
Oct 15 2024We are seeking 1-2 ambitious law students to join our team as articling students for 2025-2026.
Our Firm:
We have been a cornerstone of the Fraser Valley legal community, operating from the same location in Abbotsford since 1971 and recently expanding to a second office in Langley. As a full-service firm, we’ve spent over 50 years helping families, homeowners, businesses and Fraser Valley residents navigate all of their legal needs.
As a firm we prioritize flexibility. Our partners have an internal brand promise to come to every opportunity with an open mind, focusing on possibilities rather than defaulting to a “no”. We don’t settle for “status quo” and are continually seeking ways to enhance efficiency while staying true to our core values.
This Opportunity:
This position offers a qualified student the chance to gain invaluable experience in both the practical and administrative aspects of law practice. Here’s what you can expect:
- Top-Quality Mentorship: You’ll work closely with seasoned professionals who want to see you succeed. Regular meetings with your articling principal (typically bi-weekly) are part of the experience, but mentorship doesn’t stop there—our entire team of experienced lawyers and support staff is committed to guiding you.
- Meaningful Work: From day one, you will be involved in a variety of legal tasks that challenge you and help build your skills. We believe in giving our students real responsibility, so you will not be confined to research memos. Instead, you will contribute to work that has a tangible impact.
- Supportive Learning Environment: We foster a respectful, professional atmosphere where questions are encouraged and learning is a priority. Our “open-door policy” is more than just words. Not only do we regularly bounce ideas and strategy off of each other but we also genuinely like each other too. We will encourage you to ask questions, take initiative and get involved in the life of the firm.
When we commit to a student, we take that commitment seriously. Our goal is to provide our students with as much responsibility as they can comfortably handle, under the right supervision. This requires a greater investment on our part than simply assigning research and it is why we must limit the number of students we take on, but we have found this investment is worth it—two of our current partners began their careers as summer or articling students with RDM.
Qualifications:
To qualify as an articling student, candidates must be approved by the Law Society of BC to enter the Law Society Admission Program and have successfully completed law school by May 2025.
Diversity and Inclusion:
We value our diverse and inclusive workplace and it is important to us that you do too. We strive to foster a culture of belonging, where our differences are respected (and sometimes even celebrated!), while we remain united as a team that reflects the diverse communities that we serve.
