CONFESSIONS OF AN ICBC CLAIMS ADJUSTER
Mar 9 2016If you have been in a car accident and are dealing with ICBC, you know that it can be stressful and the processes can be unclear. A common question we get is, “Does ICBC have our best interests in mind?” We sat down with a former ICBC Claims Adjuster to ask some questions about the hard-hitting truth about ICBC and got a sneak peek into the world of the ICBC claims process.
At ICBC, there are several types of Claims Adjusters. There are Adjusters who deal specifically with bodily injury claims, which are separated into categories based on the severity of the claim. An ICBC Claims Adjuster’s job is to investigate the details of your claim, including interviewing witness(s), speaking with neighbors and employers, visiting the scene of the accident, assessing medical information, and paying the contractual medical benefits.
According to statistics that one former ICBC employee has seen, ICBC’s administrative processes are among the most efficient in the industry. They accomplish this by having one primary goal: “resolution and closure of the file within their authority levels in a timely manner.” The truth is they are not trying to get you the best, or even the fairest settlement, they are trying to close your file. “The claims process involves a lot of people behind the scenes and their goal is to try and move things along quickly.”
The former adjuster also mentioned that the people dealing with claims are all experienced and have the ability to spot red flags in the claims they are working on. His advice for anyone injured in a car accident and who is making a claim is to be honest with everyone involved. Exaggeration, lies and half-truths will seriously compromise your claim.
At RDM Lawyers, we work to try to ensure you are treated fairly and that your claim is given the attention and time required for a fair and appropriate settlement.
