Family Lawyer – Growing Beyond Provincial Court
Mar 3 2026This Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Family Lawyer who is comfortable running files from start to finish.
Many of our matters involve interesting financial issues, including disputes involving companies and complex assets, so if you enjoy the strategic side of family law, you’ll likely enjoy the work here.
Some candidates may currently practice primarily in Provincial Court and want greater exposure to Supreme Court. Others may already be comfortable in Supreme Court and are simply looking for a practice with strong support and sustainable file loads. Both situations can work well here.
Our family law practice is exclusively private files. That typically means lawyers are able to carry fewer files at a time and have the space to meaningfully move matters forward rather than constantly reacting to volume.
If you’re interested in maintaining another practice area to complement your family law practice, we’re open to that as well. Our goal is to help you build a practice that is sustainable for you.
WHO WE THINK WILL BE SUCCESSFUL:
This role tends to suit someone who:
- is comfortable running family files from start to finish
- has experience in Provincial Court
- is interested in continuing to build their Supreme Court practice
- enjoys the strategic and financial side of family disputes
- wants autonomy without being isolated
We anticipate the successful candidate will likely have been called to the bar for 3+ years, although years of call matter less to us than judgment, initiative, and the ability to move files forward.
A Little About Us:
We’re a full-service firm in the Fraser Valley, practicing out of the same building in Abbotsford since 1971 and expanding to Langley in 2023.
For generations, we’ve supported families, businesses, and individuals across the region. Our lawyers are known for legal excellence paired with a human approach, and we’re proud to be one of the most trusted and respected firms in the Fraser Valley.
You’ll be joining a group of litigators, solicitors, and support staff who are generous with their knowledge and genuinely supportive of one another. Our culture is built on trust, autonomy, and flexibility, giving lawyers the space to grow their practices while also having support when they need it.
What that looks like in practice:
- Collaborative Growth: colleagues who share files, knowledge, and opportunities
- Real Responsibility: you’ll run files and work directly with clients
- Support Without Micromanagement: guidance is there when needed
- Flexibility That Works: In-office, or a hybrid blend, we trust our lawyers to meet their professional obligations and build strong client relationships
- Future-Focused Leadership: we embrace technology and better ways of working
We also strongly believe in having the right work on the right desk. Our lawyers focus on legal strategy and advocacy, while our capable assistants ensure files move efficiently and clients stay informed. Every file is run as a team, with you as the lead and assistants who understand their role is to help keep the file moving forward and reminders are set.
Diversity and Inclusion:
We’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels they belong. Our team reflects the diverse communities we serve, and we believe our different perspectives only make us stronger. You’ll be joining a firm that’s not only inclusive but genuinely welcoming.
Compensation:
We offer flexible compensation structures designed to meet you where you’re at, from salary to fee split, or a blend of base plus commission. Let’s talk about what works for you and your goals. We also offer extended health and dental benefits, as well as parental leave and some other perks.
Interested?
If this sounds like the kind of practice you want to build, we’d love to hear from you. If timing isn’t quite right, we’re always happy to add strong candidates to our virtual bench.
